So alot has happened since the last post. Flynn got married, Richy found a girlfriend and spent ridiculous amounts of time and money flying around the country going to see her, Cesar hibernated for the winter and Gustavo continued being a predator dropping ruffies into girls drinks and earning a living in some sort of shady way. But its time for a change.

Its been a year since Mundial and its a year till Euro 2008 so something has to be done. We went into the cave and woke up Cesar and decided to see Beckham vs. Chelsea.

3 weeks away. We need a Winnebago, a BBQ, Sangria, Meat on a Stick and a barrel of Captain Morgan. Look out LA. The Pirates are coming!!!! This might be the final run for Yoda. He might have to curl up in his blanket and dissapear.

World Cup Blues

I know I am not the only one who is down in the dumps right now. Inposible. As the whole world reveled in the delirium of World Cup- joy. Most of America was going about their daily business. While across the Atlantic in Europe, World Cup fever diverted its fans from all their responsibilities...jobs, wives, children, etc. A month of tunnel vision...everybody watching 32 nations compete for the coveted opportunity to raise the cup.

We followed Argentina until they got beat out of the competition by Germany in penales...at that moment my heart was shattered and the first hint of depression set in, but that was only the start. Well it's already been a few weeks since we returned to American soil. I can't believe I am expected to return to work. 2 weeks later and I find myself wandering around aimlessly, still scanning the spanish-language stations for replays and surfing the net hoping for another game. Now that’s utterly depressing. Before I departed all I could think of was WC...little has changed as I now I find myself leading any and all conversations straight to the topic of the WC. I know I could get a life and start intergrating myself back into the work work mindset, but unfortunately it’s incredibly difficult to convince myself to do it more than a just few hours of the day. What can you do? I started paying attention to Copa Libertadores but, quite frankly, the level of play just isn’t there.

Every time I hear Love Generation or check our blog, which, by the way, is every damn day (sometimes on multiple ocassions) my heart starts racing, the alcohol content in my blood rises and my mouth begins to salivate the roady. The blog pictures have been fantastic as they instantly place me in the moment, but at the end of day I find myself missing my rouge pirate companions, the UAV (foul smell and all), gas station bratwurst, being passed on the autobahn, the international fervor, the amazing people we met along the way, etc. Let’s face it reality bites! Not sure about you guys, but I find that my Jedi skills are lagging. At least World Cup Depression only presents itself every four years. 2010 seems so far away!

A comment must be made about that pendejo pele -- he was a priceless talent (I would never question his skills on the pitch) ... but he's an absolute corporate idiot that the fans simlply don't respect -- and for good reason.

Pele is always on his knees to FIFA, mastercard, Puma -- shit he would do commercials for Tampax if the opportunity were presented. He represents everything that is wrong with the Beckhem era of bowing to the corporate world and failing to gain the respect of the true futbol fans. You never saw Maradona primping his hair between breaks or hamming it up for the cameras at corporate and FIFA events -- because he doesn't give a shit. He's a futbol'er through and through and does not give a rat's ass what the world thinks of him, AND PEOPLE LOVE THIS !

When FIFA announced the "player of the century" award before japan 2002 that was decided by "on-line" voting, Maradona won the award by a landslide. Why? Pele is NOT respected, Maradona is ADORED. FIFA, embaressed, decided to make it a c0-award and awarded it to both of them despite Maradona's 72% to 28% percent advantage in the voting. And, Maradona, keeping it real, didn't show up the awards ceremony -- he was in Cuba smoking fatties with the Beard. He said it was no longer a "fan based" award and called it a farce. Respectable behavior? Perhaps not, but real nonetheless.

Further evidence ... Did you see any shot of Pele in the stadium during the matches ? Surely he was there, but the cameras did not care. Maradona was featured more than some of the players on the field ! When Argentina dismantled Serbia 6 - 0 ... the front page of the german newspaper the following day featured Maradona hugging his daughter. People love the fact that he wears his own replica "10" jersey and cheers like a true fan for his country -- they can relate to it. It really is that simple.

Pele, keep it real brother ... and if you wouldn't have spent so much time on your knees these past 20 years perhaps your son would not be in the slammer in a filthy brasilian savage prison for slinging them rocks.

If there is one thing that I have accepted as absolute fact besides the World Cup trip being the greatest 2 weeks of my life, it's this: I hate Ronaldo. Not the fat one that plays for Brazil. I mean Cristiano Ronaldo. I hate him so much that anything short of him getting US citizenship and winning the World Cup for the USA will keep him on my hate list forever.

For anyone that doesn't know about this Portagee, he is very talented but just goes too far. His typical move consists of a run down the right flank where he does 42 stepovers then trips himself on the ball, then dives 7 feet and screams for a foul. He dives more in one half than the Italian team dives in a qualifying campaign.

The only bright note in that otherwise boring game yesterday was that I got to see Ronaldo cry. Thank you Zizou for making that penalty.

For that reason alone I will forgive your nations history of appeasement and surrender, and root for France against Italy. (Also because it will dissapoint all the Italian Americans who have cared less about Football until 2 days ago).

Okay, so the argentine official is in the final while the best team in the world is eating asado in buenos aires drinking fernet and cursing the germans ... this "appointment" is yet another example of FIFA making concessions to the great Argentine Futbol Association after the debacle that unfolded last Friday (the other concessions included suspending the german that punched one of our players in the mouth for the semi-final).

Is it still obvious that i'm devastated and frckn' bitter over our unfair premature departure ???

Still, I there is some solace in the fact that Argentine ref Elizondo gets World Cup final ... he is the one that sent off that filthy hooligan dickless pikey WAYNE ROONEY for doing the moonwalk on the portguise defenders hairy balls. GOD, i loved that RED CARD! Although, he should have spared the pikey the actual red and he should have just pointed him off the field as the ref so elequantly did to the italian that elbowed the U.S. striker between the eyeballs.

I was in London on Monday waiting for my connecting flight, and one of the local papers had the headline "TEARS AND A CLOWN" (with a photo of beckhem crying [boooo-fkn'g-hoo], and a photo of rooney taking center stage as a frckn' clown). CLASSIC.

Italia that was outshot by Ghana and should have lost to the usa (had the head-up-his-ass referee not called offsides on a shot by the americans) and clearly was outplayed by the Socceroos -- is now in the final. That said, they did show up against the diving germans.

The French. Tied the swiss and tied the Koreans ? Ma Dai ! Down 1 - 0 to the Spaniards late in the game in the round of 16 ... and played a subpar BORING game against Portugal -- they too are in the final. They did however rock the savages ... but does one good match deserve the final?

I would hate to admit it, but what FIFA needs to do is seed the teams before the cup, so that the teams with the high seads play the lower seads, perhaps four different brackets like the NCAA's, to ensure the higher seads get the "ghanas" or "aussies" in the round of 16 ... and the meaty matches are saved for the semis and finals. Because sorry folks, Portugal v. France was a bore, a joke, a poor excuse for the semi-final of the premiere tournament on the planet.

Wow! What a game. The Italians brought it tonight. So glad the goals came before the the dreaded PK's because Germany playedfor a penalty shoot-out, where Klinsmann's team would have inevitably been favourites...Germany have never lost on penalties in the World Cup and Italy have never won. Italy deserved to win and the the host nation can only bow their heads in defeat. Berlin Berlin nos vamos a Berlin. The Italian defense was impecable and the offense showed up in extra peroid hitting the post on miultiple occassions. Two great golasos to beat a great keeper. The best gol would have been the the first to strike the post the one where 11 schooled both Ballack and Lehman. That's how it goes and that's what makes football so fascinating.

I know ... "whining south americans don't know how to lose." I heard it all in alemania ... but for the record, I was the one that left japan 2002 saying "we deserved to be sent home" and during our round of 16 match with mexico in leipzig (at least during the first half), i openly said "Mexico deserves to win" (prior to peckerman pulling his head out of his ass and inserting Messi and Tevez in the final 20 minutes and prior to max rodridguez's left footed legendary blast to win the game in OT).

What was witnessed in the first half of the quarter final round was a clinic. We dominated the midfield, and had possession for 71% of the first half. But, like argentina traditionally plays, we did not shoot enough, but this was by choice (argentinos are obcessed with passing the ball into the gol requires a mere tap of the foot as opposed to a blast from the box -- i.e., crespo's behind the back pass leading to saviola's tap-in against serbia which we won 6 - 0 [most dominant victory of the cup]).

The german crowd was silent. As silent as Hitler's bunker after he put a pistol in his mouth in 1945. Then the soccer god's rewarded argentina's dominance with a brilliant Aiyala header to put us up 1 - 0 in the 10th minute of the second half. Argentina continued to dominate the midfield ... the germans realized there only chance would come on a set-play (corner kick or free kick because they could not control the ball against argentina). Then, in desparation, the Germans turned to foul play. Grabbing their faces and rolling in the box when they were not touched (ballack to me is forever a fk'ing coward after his antics) ... and it got uglier. Germany's best scoring chance in approximately the 70th minute came after one of their forwards kicked our keeper (the great Pato) in the ribs, still the rebound blast was blocked by ayala and it was still 1 - 0. However, Pato was forced to pull himself out of the game -- our starting keeper was gone but no red card, no yellow card, not even a foul was called for the dirty play (instead germany almost scored). Almost.

Then our coach Peckerman did his part ... down to two substitutions (since our keeper was removed via a german boot), he inserted cambiasso for riquelme and CRUZ for CRESPO. WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT ??? The german surname left lionel messi on the bench? The most expensive young talent in europa featured on every major billboard for the worldcup was left on the bench with 12 minutes left to play ? It was bad enough he didn't start messi -- but cruz for messi ? cruz had not even played ! what a boludo pendejo hijo de mil puta technico! His surname is "peckerman" and surely he has ancestors that emigrated to bariloche after WWIII -- enough said. : )

Despite being dominated in every facet of the game, five minutes later the germans got their set play and burried a nice gol off two consecutive headers beating our goalkeeper that had only been in the game a matter of minutes. Surely FIFA rejoiced. 1 - 1. Then, with five minutes left in the game, the germans decided to thwart an argentine attack in the box with the use of a defender's HAND -- ummmmm, there is a reason the english whom invented this game called it FOOT-BALL. Penalty? Nahhhh, a "no call" -- again! Then, Maxi Rodriguez breaks free into the box, is hacked, and is thrown to the ground. Penalty? Nooooooo ... Maxi was instead given the yellow for "diving." Sorry Mr. Referee, it was that maricon ballack that was diving all over the fucking field. We saw the same thing against the French in the final minutes of the France vs. Brasil match -- the ref's are always trying to allow the equalizer for the more commercial friendly team (in this case, the home team, go figure !?!).

You all know how it ends from there ... more shity calls in the OT, then we lose in penalties. The fact is that we choked the penalties and the germans buried there pk's -- there is no denying this. But we all know pk's are 90% mental, and by the time we got to pk's, we were mentaly defeated because it surely felt like the world was against them in the form of the referees, dirty playing germans, and the FIFA officials (75,000 screaming fans certainly sealed our fate as well). As far as I was concerned, just being in pk's was a defeat in itself.

Still, the germans in the press conference boasted about their dominance and how argentina was fortunate to even get to the pk's -- were we watching the same match? FIFA is a fucking mafia -- and the fact that a few argentine players went afer the FIFA officials after the match speaks volumes (this has never happened before on the world stage). Those that can appreciate futbol know that argentina (for the first time in 20 years, beacause we reached the final in 1990 with a crappy and very lucky team) had the best and most exciting team in the tournament ... the dismantling of serbia demonstrates how exciting it would have been to see this great team advance (and as obe-one kanobi would have said) to "fulfil its destiny." The world had better take notice in 2010 when messi will be 22, tevez 26 and the young Kun will be on our squad (assuming FIFA gets its shit together and allows the best team to win).

Still, that said, thanks germany for a wonderful time ... the people were grand (national team not included), the venues pristine, the beer amazing, the food tasty, and the times were more memorable that can be expressed in words. Another big thanks to my fellow "rogue pirates" -- Richy, Flynny, Cesare and our temporary pirates (pantelis, my father pepe, and sarah).

Teaching the Germans how to tailgate

So even though Bryan threatened to throw my passport in the lake, so I couldnt leave, he didnt actually do it so here is an update from somewhere over the Atlantic. I am headed home and the Castro's are continuing the World Cup for 2 more weeks.

I definately finished on a good note. We saw Ukraine score 4 goals against Saudi Arabia, then we had a BBQ while most of the Germans sat in traffic trying to leave the stadium parking lot. We managed to invite a few locals to our BBQ and they were very surprised about out hospitality.

A good day all around, except for the 6:45 flight from Hamburg to Munich, but Richy, I did what I said and I showered in the Lufthansa first class lounge. It was the best shower in 2 weeks.

BTW Cesar is a Jedi when it comes to getting video of goals. He has about 6 goals on video from the stadium. If I can figure out how to link them to Flickr, I will.

Sorry, its been a few days since the last post but Hamburg fanfest is just too good. To anyone who doesnt like Futbol, to try to understand the scene here in incomprehensible. Imagine the Superbowl x the World Series x the Stanley cup x 50. Most of you are rooting for the Red Sox while the US was robbed 3 points against Italy.

We won. First the throw the dirtiest foul in the world cup so far. Then the ref gives 2 RED CARDS to the US on fouls that didnt deserve yellow cards. Then the Americans still played great and almost won. We scored and they called offsides on a shot???? How is that possible??? On a shot???? I hope someone in America cares cause we won.

Anyway I represented the good old USA with my flag and jersey. They hated me but we kept those Russian savages at bay for 50 years with our weapons so the Germans had to keep quiet.

Also, in Hamburg fanfest, every country has a tent, and Argentina's rocks but Americas isnt good so I had to take it over 2 nights ago. The guy said he sold more burgers in 30 minutes than he did in 2 days. He loved us.

Ronaldihno Goes Fishing ...

Yep, gustavo is in the MF'ing house -- i'm not down with technology, so my posts will be few and far between, but some stories MUST BE SHARED.

In munich, at the world's largest beer garden, flynny, richy and I proceeded to down two huge steins of cerveza. Yep, we were a bit toasted ... so, naturally, we decided to make friends with our neighbors. And, as luck would have it, they were yankees from the states.

There was an old cat, about 50, and his lesbian looking sister and her gay friend. We shot the shit with them, and as our conversations always turn, we brought up the urban assault vehicle, 10 meters of amazing glory. It turned out they were also going to the tunisia vs. saudi arabia match in munich, so they jumped aboard.

It was classic. Sober cesare manned his post as pilot, flynny richy and I sat with the 3 americans in back. They asked whom I was supporting and then it became ugly -- the dike figured out quickly that this ride was not for free -- she would have to suffer my forked tounged wrath. I told her about how amazing argentina is ... but that's boring ... then i got to our enemies.

ENGLAND. I must have said the words "fucking pikeys" at least 47 times. For those of you keeping score, pikeys are the filthy trailer park brits (remember brad pitt in Snatch?). Yep, pikeys are the hooligans that would kill their neighbor just to steal the morning paper (not to read it, of course, but maybe to wipe their ass with it). The woman about shit herself ... remember, this old lesbian lookes like a librarian / Ms. Doubtfire, she tried to respond by taking the conversatoin in another direction. Gussy wasn't having it.

BRASIL. I saved my best material for brasil. She said, "isn't brasil good and a rival of argentina ?" She may have succeeded in taking me away from my "pikey talk," but then she had to go brasil. I told her the truth -- that brasilians are filthy savages. I told her a little known fact about ronaldihno -- I said "Did you know that if honaldihno approached a muddy river, he could dunk his head in the water, shake his head, and come up with 7 fishes every single time -- in his mouth."

Then, the stadium was in view, she opened the door and they split.

So we watched Argentina vs. Serbia at Haburg fanfest. Dios Mio. 6-0!!!!! Best goals we have ever seen. Messi is god. Tevez is Jesus. We found a good bar to watch the rest of the games with internet, so we are about to post alot.

Before Gustavo posts, a great story. After we watched Argentina, a guy came up to the Urban Assault vehicle and asked to come in. He was an Argentine radio host who was supposed to be in Kaiserslautern for the game but got drunk last night and went to strip clubs and missed the game. When we decided to do this blog, we had no idea how difficult getting internet access would be in Germany. Sorry for taking so long. We have been on a whirlwind that isnt over yet. In the last 3 days we have gone from Munich to Wurzburg to Hannover (Italy vs. Ghana) to Frankfurt (Korea vs. Togo) back to a rest stop in Wurzburg on our way back to Munich (Saudi vs. Tunisia). Then we have to go from Munich to Hamburg in about 14 hours for Ecuador vs. Costa Rica. Then we can rest for a few days. I have uploaded a few pics to the Flicker site on the right, but once we figure out how to get the rest of the pictures up, it will be much better. Be patient. We are alive and well and just a little tired.

Some highlights so far.

- Bryan befriending and Argentinian guy who invited us to his house for BBQ and the game.
- Pulling the enourmous motorhome into downtown historic Wurzburg, much to the horror of all the outdoor diners and setting up shop, dropping the Argentine flag and starting a party basically on the street.
- Watching the Italians. They are good and the fans were great
- Then the Koreans who brought drums and choreography. What a great game too. They pulled it out and won and the entire city of Frankfurt turned into one huge Korean party.
- Watching the Brazilians beat the Croatians, yet the Croatians partied in Frankfurt like they won. They are a strange bunch.

OK, I need to wake up the Castros so we can head to Munich in time to watch my other country, Espana beat the Ukrainians before our game.

Oh and yes I am miserable that the USA lost 3-0 to Czech. We need a big game against the Italians or its over for us.

Greetings from Deutschland. I have landed in Munich, the city hosting the opening game of the World Cup between Germany and Costa Rica. It's just crazy and I have only seen the airport and the hotel.
While my partners in crime are stuck flying in steerage making about 9 connections, I was able to fly something more suitibale to my stature, Lufthansa First Class, Boston to Munich. WOW. That is the life. Not to mention that the stewardess was cute and friendly, not some bitter old battle ax thats miserable for working for a bankrupt airline. Also the male steward had every World Cup game commited to memory including the locations. It was amazing.

So I picked this book up over the weekend. It has a few written pages by a different author for all 32 teams in the tournament. Some are pretty well known, like Nick Hornby (England section) and Dave Eggars (US section). It's very well written and very up to date.

Anyway, I do concede the El Gran Castro title of this generation to Bryan, followed closely by Richy. I think my dad (the original Gustavo) takes it for his generation. But I get the Ese Castro Esta Loco title for 2006, at least until Richy goes on his Che-inspired motorcycle trip later this year.
